About the Area

Plastering for Wimborne’s town houses and villages

The centre of Wimborne is full of older buildings, with town houses and cottages clustered around the Minster, the Square and West Borough. Walls there are often solid, ceilings may be lath and plaster, and surfaces are rarely perfectly straight, so the job is about sound repairs and a clean finish that suits the house.

Colehill, Merley and Canford Magna are mostly post-war and later family homes. Typical jobs there are re-skimming tired rooms, repairing ceilings after leaks, replacing dated coving and finishing new kitchens and extensions.

Corfe Mullen and Leigh add a mix of bungalows and newer estates, where textured ceilings and hairline cracks along board joints are the usual calls. Whatever the age of your home, we explain the method as well as the price before you decide.

How We Work

How We Work in Wimborne

Older Wimborne homes need a closer look before we price, so the first visit matters. The rest follows a simple routine.

01

Arrange a Visit

Tell us about the rooms and the age of the property. For older town houses we usually come and look, because photos do not always show what the walls are made of.

02

Method and Price

You get a written quote that explains what we will do and why — whether that is patching, overboarding or a full re-skim.

03

Careful Preparation

Floors and furniture are protected, loose material is removed, and surfaces are primed so the new plaster bonds properly.

04

Finish and Handover

The final coats are trowelled flat, we clear everything away, and we explain how long the plaster needs before you paint.

FAQs

Plastering questions from Wimborne customers

What Wimborne customers most often want to know before booking. Ring if your question is not covered.

01202 125594
How is plastering priced in Wimborne?

We price per wall and per ceiling based on their condition, never by the hour. Older properties vary a lot, so we usually look before quoting, and the quote is always free and in writing.

Which villages around Wimborne do you cover?

Colehill, Corfe Mullen, Merley, Canford Magna, Leigh, Furzehill and Pamphill, as well as the town itself.

Our ceiling is old lath and plaster and it is sagging. Can it be saved?

If most of it is still sound, it can often be secured and overboarded, which keeps disturbance down. If it is badly broken, replacing it with board and a skim is the better fix. We will tell you which after seeing it.

Can you match the cornice in our hallway?

We rebuild missing and damaged sections to follow the original profile as closely as possible and blend them into the run. For very ornate cornice, we will tell you honestly what is achievable before we start.

My walls are very uneven. Can you straighten them?

Yes. Where a skim alone will not be enough, we build the wall out with a backing coat first, then finish it, so the surface ends up flat and true.

Do you plaster new extensions and kitchens?

Yes. We board and skim new rooms and make good around new kitchens, working to your builder’s or fitter’s dates.

What guarantee comes with the work?

A written ten-year workmanship guarantee. If a problem comes back to our preparation or application, we come back and fix it.

How soon can I decorate?

Usually three to seven days after the final coat, and longer on solid walls in older houses. Wait until the plaster is evenly pale, then mist-coat before painting.
