The Service
A straight, solid base for every finish
Dry lining means fixing plasterboard to a wall, ceiling or frame instead of building up wet plaster from scratch. It is quicker, it straightens out walls that are badly out of true, and it gives the finish plaster a consistent surface to go onto.
We board onto timber and metal studwork, ceiling joists and existing walls. Typical jobs are old lath and plaster ceilings in Charminster and Winton that have had their day, new partition walls, loft conversions and garage conversions, and rooms opened up by knocking through.
Getting the boarding right is what stops cracks later. Boards are fixed at the correct centres, joints are staggered and taped, and edges and corners are beaded before a full skim, so the finish stays flat and the joints never show.
- Walls, ceilings, partitions and conversions
- Old lath and plaster replaced with board
- Joints taped and corners beaded before skimming
- Ready to decorate once the skim is dry
How We Work
How Our Plasterboarding & Dry Lining Process Works
Four stages from bare frame or tired old surface to a wall or ceiling you can paint.
Measure & Plan
We look at the space, what the boards are going onto and what the room will be used for, then specify the right board and put the price in writing.
Strip & Prepare
Old lath and plaster or damaged board is taken down and bagged up, and we check the joists, studs or walls are sound and true before boarding.
Board & Tape
Plasterboard is cut and fixed with joints staggered, screwed at the right spacing, then every joint is taped and every corner beaded.
Skim & Hand Over
A two-coat skim goes over the whole surface for a flat, paint-ready finish. We clear away offcuts and waste and talk you through drying times.

Two-storey extension plastered start to finish. Kept pace with our builder and left it ready to decorate.
Ceiling came down after a bathroom leak upstairs. They boarded and skimmed it within two days of me calling.
Knocked the kitchen and dining room through and needed the whole space skimming. Turned up when they said and finished on schedule.
We manage several rentals and use them for all our skimming between tenancies. Reliable with dates, which matters to us.
Quoted on the Monday, started the following week, finished on the day they said. No surprises on price.
Two bedroom ceilings skimmed in a day and a half. No mess left behind and the finish took paint beautifully.
Skimmed our whole downstairs after we took the wallpaper off. Walls came up perfectly flat and they cleaned up every evening.

FAQs
Plasterboarding & dry lining questions
The questions that come up most when a job involves new boards. If you are not sure whether to board or re-plaster, ask and we will explain the difference for your walls.
01202 125594How much does plasterboarding cost in Bournemouth?
It depends on the area to be boarded, the type of board, how much needs stripping out first and whether we are skimming as well. We price the job as a whole and put it in writing, usually within 48 hours of seeing the space or clear photos.
What is the difference between dry lining and plastering?
Dry lining fixes plasterboard in place to create the surface. Traditional plastering builds the surface up with wet backing plaster. Both are usually finished with a skim, and dry lining is often quicker and better for walls that are badly out of true.
Should I replace my lath and plaster ceiling with plasterboard?
If the lath and plaster is sagging, badly cracked or coming away, yes. If it is mostly sound, overboarding can be a quicker and less messy option. We look at it and tell you which makes more sense.
Do you skim the plasterboard afterwards?
Yes, as standard. A full skim over taped joints gives one continuous surface. Without it, board joints tend to show through paint.
Can you board a loft or garage conversion?
Yes. Conversions are a big part of our boarding work. Once the builder has the frame, insulation and first fix in, we board the ceilings and walls, tape the joints and skim the lot.
Do you use moisture-resistant or fire-rated board?
Where the room calls for it, yes. Bathrooms and kitchens usually take moisture-resistant board, and some conversions need fire-rated board. We follow your builder's or building control's specification where there is one.
How soon can I decorate after dry lining?
Once the skim over the boards is dry and evenly pale, usually within a few days. Start with a mist coat before your finish coats.
Do you do dry lining outside Bournemouth?
Yes. We board and skim across Poole, Christchurch, Ferndown, Wimborne, Ringwood, Verwood and New Milton. For conversions slightly outside that area, call and we will see if we can fit it in.
