About the Area

Plastering street by street across Bournemouth

Bournemouth grew fast between the 1880s and the 1930s, and it shows inside the walls. The big villas in Boscombe, Westbourne and around the East Cliff were built with lath and plaster, and many have since been split into flats, so jobs there often mean patching old ceilings between new partition walls.

Further north, the interwar semis and bungalows of Winton, Moordown, Kinson and Redhill have solid walls with a sand and cement backing that can go hollow with age. Charminster and Springbourne sit somewhere in between, with Edwardian terraces that have been knocked through, re-wired and re-plastered more than once.

A lot of our Bournemouth work is for landlords and letting agents turning rooms round between tenants, and for owners refurbishing a flat to live in or sell. We work to the dates you have, and we tell you plainly when a patch will do and when a full re-skim is the better spend.

How We Work

How We Work in Bournemouth

Most Bournemouth jobs are in lived-in homes or tenanted flats, so we plan around access, parking and the people living there.

01

Tell Us the District and the Job

Let us know where the property is, which rooms are involved and whether anyone will be living there during the work. Photos are the quickest way to a price.

02

Survey and Written Price

We look at the walls or ceilings, test for hollow plaster and give you a written price, with a clear note of anything that might change it.

03

Protect, Prepare and Plaster

Floors, stairs and communal areas are sheeted, damaged areas are cut back, and the walls and ceilings are skimmed to a flat, even finish.

04

Tidy Handover

We clear every bag and dust sheet, walk you or your agent round the finished rooms and explain when they will be ready to paint.

FAQs

Plastering questions from Bournemouth customers

The questions Bournemouth homeowners and landlords ask us most. Ring if yours is not here.

01202 125594
What does a plasterer cost in Bournemouth?

It depends on the room and the state of the walls, so we price per wall and per ceiling after seeing them or clear photos. As a guide, a standard bedroom ceiling skim starts around £200. Every quote is free and in writing.

Which parts of Bournemouth do you work in?

All of them — Winton, Charminster, Moordown, Kinson, Boscombe, Springbourne, Westbourne, Queens Park, Talbot Woods, Throop, Redhill, Pokesdown and the town centre, covering BH1 to BH11.

Can you work in a flat with other residents in the building?

Yes. We protect shared stairs and hallways, carry materials in and waste out tidily, and keep noise to sensible hours. Let us know about any building rules or parking permits before we start.

Do you work for letting agents in Bournemouth?

Regularly. We turn rooms round between tenancies, from patching marked walls to full re-skims, and we work to the agent’s dates and key arrangements.

My Victorian ceiling is cracked. Does it need replacing?

Not always. If the lath and plaster is mostly sound, it can often be secured and overboarded. If it is sagging or coming away, replacing it with board and a skim is usually the better long-term fix. We will tell you which after we have seen it.

Can you plaster after a knock-through?

Yes. Once the builder has put in the steel or lintel, we box it in, make good the opening and skim the walls and ceiling so the two old rooms read as one.

Are you insured?

Yes. We carry public liability insurance and can send the certificate with your quote if your landlord, agent or building management needs it.

How long before I can decorate?

Fresh plaster usually takes three to seven days to dry through, longer on solid walls or in cold weather. Wait until it is evenly pale, then start with a mist coat.
